It's a challenge to build over water that's for sure. Think Valheim could use a mechanic like Minecraft where you press shift to ensure you can't fall off what you're standing on while also giving you ability to go slightly over the edge enabling you to build outwards over open spaces.

This is a before and after of a simple but very cool bridge that is supported underneath into the water. Was very interesting building over water
