In an attempt to trick the devil out of claiming his soul, Stingy Jack agreed to a deal: provide one thousand souls by midnight in exchange for a return to his mortal life. Not wanting to be tricked again, the devil gave Jack a vessel for transporting the souls, a perfectly normal-looking carousel—normal only to Jack's eyes. As the sun sets on Halloween, the carousel transforms, striking fear into the hearts of mortals. Unable to collect enough souls, Jack is cursed to wander the earth for eternity, shrouded from the living except one night a year. And thus goes the story of Stingy Jack and his haunted carousel.
