I originally thought of this building as the my house as the city ruler, a kind of longhouse up in the hill looking over the town. With the treasury in the basement, a feast hall in the main floor and my chambers in the upper floor. But that was before Mistlands, with way less materials and decorations available but also skill to face such big buildings. The basement felt crude, the stair case going up looked too boxy and the upper floor had smoke leeching through the floor from braziers under and the roof was too low to be proper living place for a ruler.
Rebuild the upper part was going to be a pain. I had to inlay a lot of hidden iron poles in the walls from the ground up (the roof was already deep red) and while the roof would be off, the rain will keep damaging pieces that will be hard to reach to fix later (happened already the first time I built it). So, I slacked and let the building half-baked for 2 years until the release of Ashlands brought the shield dome and I had no more excuses.
With way more building experience and lots of new materials and decorations; I had the idea to change the purpose of the building. Now it's a city council building that hold all the necessary premises:
- The main hall with tables to fit 2 representative for each of the 10 clans or guilds of the town
- My throne up above them all
- The banner, shield, weapon and trophy depicting the colors for me and those guilds or clans (other buildings use them to keep the theme coherent though all the city)
- A cellar and a kitchen to handle all the food served during plenary sessions
- Two halls with wardrobes in the lateral entrances for the attendees to the plenary
- A balcony overseeing the old downtown
- A back entrance and wait hall for the citizens visiting the administration offices
- Citizen serving counter up in the offices
- Plenty of desks, tables and storage for the office workers to be able to squeeze till the last penny from my citizen pockets
- A prison in the basement for unruly vikings
- A truth-seeking station with all the necessary appliances to do their job
- Public spaces outside for the citizens to enjoy strolls
I hope you enjoy it!
