Sharing some tricks you're using in your builds. Here's some of mine.

Hey, builders!

First, I use mainly Infinity Hammer and Gizmo, but other mods as well, like Seasonality, though I like to keep the game mostly vanilla. I only have the vanilla build pieces.

I've been building a lot and thinking a lot about how to create more variation in my builds. For example, using floor pieces and rotating/clipping in different ways to create a custom floor piece (sometimes made up of wall pieces -- which I can then put in my builds by using the infinity hammer pipette function), or rotating and clipping poles to form a round column. I figured out some nice tricks that add texture to a column. I've done some custom wall pieces using poles or beams. I'm gonna post some screens of some of those. Some are instance heavy though, if you use a lot of them.

My workflow got better. I'm using the offset keys more. Very useful for placement (I changed the offset amount from .1 to .05).

What are some of your favorite discoveries and tricks to use on builds? Looking for inspiration. I'll be happy to try and explain how to do some of these...

A-ha, smart thinking with that wood skeleton!

Most of my discoveries, lately, have been just learning how to get the most out of the tools I have to speed up the building process, so I can focus more on ideas. In the last build I posted I pre-made some flooring, walls and roof pieces options, and then just copied them and put them in. Still had some small issues with snapping and gaps, but overall I saved so much time -- and wrist stress!

I haven't really played with prefabs yet, except maybe the creepy statues and big trees from the swamp (for a horror-themed mansion that was gonna be a mini-dungeon -- which never came to be), but that would be a good direction to go in. Open up new possibilities.

And I had checked out your Mausoleum before, I actually was wondering if those pieces were vanilla or a mod... I"d never seen them before.

I'll go check out some videos and that mod you mentioned.

Thanks for sharing!

You have seen those green pieces before, it’s just that in Ashlands they look more black than green.

as for the mod i mentioned, there is nothing to be seen in videos on YT. It’s just a catalog of game assets that are not available in building hammer menu.

btw, i really like how that black marble pieces merge into L shape corner piece. I built a lot with black marble but never noticed that.

I checked out VNEI. It'll make finding and using those pieces much more convenient! Thanks!

And yeah, merging black marble pieces seems to connect and change the texture image to a unified one, as if it were one piece -- unlike stone pieces which just clip and keep their own texture image. I haven't tried, but you could probably build a whole wall of these and end up with a smooth marble finish, with no breaks in the texture...

Ok, it did half of what I said it would: The texture of each piece merges into a continuous one, but there are SOME break lines. Here's a pic: https://imgur.com/jmXtEee

Left is the 2x2 piece and right is the 1x2. It's definitely better than just squares, though.

My favorite discovery is that I can use build pieces like Ashlands fort pieces for my builds and actually snap it to normal build pieces. It does require some offsetting, but it works like a charm. They cannot snap to each other, but if you make a "building skeleton" with normal wood pieces, you will be able to snap everything to "building skeleton". Once you are done, remove the skeleton and you have a build that is pure vanilla, but with pieces you cannot use normally.
This also work with fuling village pieces. They cannot snap to each other, but they all snaps to normal wood build pieces.

If you check my Mausoleum build, you will see that the most build pieces are not available at building hammer menu, but they are still vanilla.
I use VNEI mod to find prefab IDs and infinity hammer to select them. The command is "hammer [prefab ID]".

Update: Huh... I added some descriptions of what the images are... apparently it didn't update the first time. Just now, before adding them I got a 'failed to update description' message. Sorry :1
