The Vegvísir Roads

The Vegvísir Roads of the Realm have been completed. For too long the scattered settlements and cities constructed by the Jarls both present and past have felt disconnected. Travel to each other required a dangerous trek through uncharted biomes or even risking the travel by sea. Better yet portals allow for near instant travel but those such ways need a two-way agreement. Discovering old records within the ruins of Virti Mjollhall during its reconstruction, the Jarls found old plans for a massive road network that would have connected the entire Realm. Such plans never came into fruition due to the Forsaken but scattered across the world with near complete sections, much of which has been reclaimed by nature or even yet lost to time.

Following the blueprints discovered, the roads were rebuilt, repaved, and repurposed to allow anyone to walk from end to end without need of a ship or portal. The original plan from the First Age was much grander in scale but after the rapturing of the land, such lands have been cut off entirely. Split into 5 sections in total that branch off into certain holds and lands outside the Inner Holds.

Aesir Road: The Aesir Road is considered the main route; it starts in the northern hold of Hrafnhold at Hrafn Crossing and travels south all the way to the Isle of Hithaeglir to the outskirts of Leechwater Keep. This journey passes through several major cities: Jarnvidr, Guildhall, Torstein, Bragi Keep, and Vanlandi. This road is considerably safe due to the close proximity to the Inner Holds.

Vanir Way: Branches off from Guildhall and heads towards Vesturhold’s capital of Tyr’s Landing. Crossing through Ragnor Woods to Iverstead, the road passes by several small inns and rolling hills. Smallest of the roads, it was originally aimed to connect the Maarva Isles to the mainland but land masses have made it considerably difficult.

Fulhnam Pass: Originating in Maedhroshold near the Dun Ruunvald, this pass heads north towards Falker Isle and eventually to Fjardhold. Venturing through the Swamp of Woe from Yngol Keep, it is the only route that has a small ferry that crosses the river (a bridge is being utilized soon). From Falker, it leads to Stendarr Stronghold and reconnects at Anfalas Gateway. The Anfalas Gateway unites Fjardhold and Vesturhold via a bridge.

Rix Road: From Rox Crossroads, this road heads north through the plains eventually coming to the new settlement of Guilherme Watch. Rix Road has the longest bridge in the Realm, with its middle point being further away from any noticeable land. From here it journeys to the outskirts of Sorlathan.

Jotnar Road: The Jotnar Road is the longest road with the Vegvísir Roads. Starting at Tolfalas Gateway, it journeys to Grunauer Grove first before heading west towards Isle Bridge to cross into the region of Alftrollholm. This section of road is considered the most treacherous due to the long stretch of plains and swamps it must cross. Once a Rix Crossroads, the road travels south to Erryk Crossing to allow those to cross into Dvergurstjorna. With the arrival of the dvergr in the area, cooperation has borne fruit and they’ve aided in the construction of several sections including the only road that cuts through the hearts of the Mistlands, the Dvergr Pass. Jotnar Road zigs and zags through the dreaded mists, the ruins of the last age, and the hellscape of the Queens forces stalking you in the dark. From here it opens in the lands of Larshold and the safe haven of Skorgarvik.

The Vegvísir Roads are the realms highways, and even now there are talks of expanding the network into further lands if deemed possible. There are scattered ruins of such everywhere in this world, all it takes is the willpower of several Jarls and ample amounts of stone. There are still some areas that need some polishing up, and the previous few months havebeen quite busy in doing so.

  Have something to say?
