  • Vision and design of building in the Realm.

My approach to my design heavily relies on inspiration from Tolkien's world and the Elder Scrolls. My fondest memories are the countless hours exploring the world stumbling upon ancient ruins of a long lost age that have really been embedded into how I design and build things. Setting up the realm of a Rhovanion (named after a region in Middle Earth), I decided to try to set up a world that felt more rich in terms of what to find and explore. Since the Ashland update, the ability to spawn in the Ashland ruins has made it possible to be able to add character to the world.

The architectural designs I make in the game often follow a similar pattern where I construct a spot, ideally with a ruin or two within it, and then start to rebuild around the old foundation. Every town, city, or fort has a history as to why that location exists and why there is now a new building upon it, thus giving it a unique characteristic. Most of my builds I try to keep as vanilla as possible, and only use the building mechanics of the game in its current state. The only mods that I use allows me to add any item to an item stand so I can decorate properly. I always start drafting on paper a design before I lay the first stone down, and keep to a certain design for each location, ensuring that the builds I do all feel different compared to others within the Realm. That is my approach to how I construct and design, but each player that are contributing to the Realm brings their own style, which in the end enriches the entirety of the world.
  • The Realm of Rhovanion

Following the arrival of the Dvergr, the early pioneers set up small scattered settlements across the center isles. Eventually these scattered settlements formed a unified kingdom. Within this center they called it, Rhovanion. Here housed a mighty kingdom that stretched as far as the seas would take them. The Realm of Rhovanion was the heart of the Kingdom as it prospered and grew. Eventually the High Jarl of the Realm sanctioned her children to spread out across the known regions. They all became vassals to the Realm and each prospered in their own way. As time carried forward, the kingdom would begin to crumble as the arrival of the Forsaken struck the Outer Regions. One by one they fell. In time all that remained was the Realm of Rhovanion itself, and even it was a shadow of its former self. The dreaded mist engulfed the outer borders forcing the Dvergr to flee as well. The lands of Eteläinen were conquered by the flames of Fader, whilst the fulings fell under the sway of Yagluth allowing them to carve up what remained. As many fled inwards, Bonemass corrupted many isolated pockets of men bringing death to many.

Only the Dvergr held on their selected holds and cooperated with the Realm before fading to their own safe havens elsewhere, though some scattered remnants remained. Their goal was to hunt down the Forsaken themselves for cursing their once proud home. The Dvergr have left their mark on this world. Leaving relics from fallen kingdoms, with lingering remnants of their once proud hold scattered across the land. The Second Age of the Realm has commenced with dozens of vikings arriving within the world, and rebuilding the fallen kingdom. Rhovanion is split into 7 holds currently : Midthold, Vesturhold, Nordurhold, Ostlighold , Surdurhold, Hrafnhold, Larshold and Maedhroshold. Each hold has a number of different settlements, and ruins, each with their own spin. I set the holds up to be within a connection of Midthold, each with a vacancy of a Jarl. Any Viking can join, lay claim to a hold that is vacant and start to rebuild. Newly formed Holds will be introduced as vikings expand their claims
