Hi Valheimians!
I'm sure many of you have already been building on Creative Mode but I thought it might be useful to share some tips and tricks for the newer vikings. Please feel free to comment below if you know other tricks that you use and would like to share with the community!
Tip #1 - Use the Time of Day Command to Keep the Day Bright
Building in darkness is probably one of the worst things you can do in Creative Mode. Just enter "tod 0.5" into the console to set the time to midday, where the sun is overhead. This allows to build in maximum brightness all the time without having to worry about nightfall.
Tip #2 - Using Enemies to Help Clear Trees
Why chop trees when you can spawn Yagluth, Trolls, and other enemies to help chop them for you? Yagluth's melee slam meteor attack does a lot of AOE damage that is really useful for clearing dense patches of forests and rocks. Trolls, on the other hand are more mobile and have much faster swings. You can spawn them by entering "spawn GoblinKing" (case and space sensitive) and "spawn Troll" in the console. Then, run close to the trees and rocks that you want to destroy and let the enemies attack them for you! Once you're done, just hit "K" to kill all enemies.
Unfortunately, I haven't found a quick way to clear up the remaining logs and stumps yet, so that has to be done manually still. But with enemies chopping trees for you, the total amount of time spent for clearing a plot of land should be reduced by a good amount, especially since you don't have to worry about your stamina.
Do remember to turn on god mode by entering "godmode" in the console before spawning them so that you don't die a quick death!
Tip #3 - Build a Max Comfort Hut
Stamina depletes rather quickly when you don't have the rested buff, so before you embark on your epic build project, I recommend building a hut with maximum comfort so that you can enjoy the rested buff for as long as 25 mins!
A 4x4 (8m x 8m) hut is all you need and the following objects should bring you up to 18 comfort, which is the maximum currently.
1. Campfire - 3 comfort (includes shelter and base comfort)
*You might be able to build a Hearth to bring comfort level to 19.
2. Dragon Bed - 2 comfort
3. Chair - 2 comfort
4. Raven Throne - 3 comfort
5. Table - 1 comfort
6. Lox Rug - 1 comfort
7. Wolf Rug - 1 comfort
8. Deer Rug - 1 comfort
9. Any Banner - 1 comfort
10. Maypole - 1 comfort
11. Yule Tree - 1 comfort
12. Brazier - 1 comfort
Tip #4 - Stamina Meads
Even with the 25 min rested buff, you might still run out of stamina sometimes when terraforming, building, or removing structures quickly. To help you maintain your building speed, you can craft some Medium Stamina Meads in your hut to use when your stamina depletes. The cooldown is 2 mins, but when combined with the rested buff and the appropriate food (fish wraps, lox meat pie, and serpent stew), your stamina should last you close to another 2 mins at the very least.
Tip #5 - Skipping Bad Weather
Rain causes your character to get the wet debuff, which reduces stamina recovery rate. If you're building in the mountains, a blizzard might cause your framerates to dip and also cause visibility issues when building. To skip bad weather, simply enter "sleep" in the console t0 fast forward the in-game clock to the next day.
Do note that if you have set the Time of Day earlier, you won't be able to see the notification for the new day, but the time will still accelerate and the bad weather should end in a jiffy.
Tip #6 - Skipping Events
Unlike bad weather, you can't skip events with the "sleep" command. Instead, to stop enemies from attacking your building and causing you to spend more time on trying to fix your masterpiece, just type "stopevent" in the console to end the event.
Tip #7 - Free Camera, Hiding the Interface, and Smoother Videos
This tip is really for the new players who are just starting to share their builds. You can use the "freefly" command to enter camera mode and take screenshots of your builds from any angle you like.
To hide your interface so that you can get a clean screenshot of your build, hit "Ctrl + F3". This will hide the entire HUD, allowing you to take nice pictures and record amazing videos with the free camera.
Finally, you may notice when you first use the camera mode that the camera movement is extremely snappy. To smoothen the camera movement for recording great panning shots, you can enter "ffsmooth 1" or any number between 0 and 1 in the console. The higher the number, the smoother the movement. However, the smoother the movement, the more difficult it is to control as the acceleration and deceleration is much slower, which means your camera will still move even after you stop pressing the movement keys.
