Lets talk about the best Valheim Plus settings !
This is a full review of the config file for Valheim Plus. If you are playing Valheim plus on your PC then you can edit your valheim_plus.cfg file on your computer. If you are hosting a Valheim Plus server then you'll need to edit the configuration file on your server host of choice. I've pasted a reference file in the bottom of this article. Feel free to copy it instead of setting everything yourself.
First let's talk about the format of the config file itself - BepInEx/config/valheim_plus.cfg
You'll notice that every section starts with. "Change false to true to enable this setting". Make sure to enable the section. You cannot just change the value!
1 - The Less clicking, the better
Valheim can be very click intensive and it is easy to spend hours moving items back and forth if you lack organization. Such as I. Lots of these tweaks focus on reducing inventory time and clicking time so that you can focus on the best parts of the gameplay - building, carts, and boat exploration.
2- Disabling Weather Damage
Water causes damage to most structures and will reduce the structure to 50% health. This does not degrade further than 50%. Disable this means weather cannot damage structures. However enemies and yourself can damage structures.
3- Enabling Repair Radius
One click and everything next to what you are repairing gets repaired. Use this setting so that repair can instantly fix whole structures or more.
4- Increase Sailing View Distance
Sailing is fun as hell in Valheim. Make it even better by increasing the maximum camera distance while sailing.
5- Consider Increasing Experience Gain Rates
This is a personal choice but I like it when Valheim combat is very punishing while experience gains are very fast. I die allot and... I like being able to level up quickly. Consider it a balance of sorts.
6- Fermentor Stack Size Increase
Fermentors usually brew 6 potions. I changed it to 10.
7 - No More Torch Fueling
You can make all torches last forever so you won't need to spend time refilling your favorite well lit creations. Fireplaces will still require wood fuel.
8 - Kilns, Smelters, and Furnace
Consider increasing storage of each to at least 100. The goal is to minimize tedious movement while still having enjoyable gameplay. I don't recommend using the auto fill chest setting because increasing the storage of these items to 100 or 200 fixes those gameplay concerns.
Note that items like Fermentors, Kiln, Smelter, and Furnace all play an important role. They function well to make the player go off and adventure. The player just needs to feel confident these items will be working the entire time. This is why being able to increase the fuel storage size is so important. The player should be able to "finish" their base work and have 30+ minutes of time "to kill" while they go off and adventure !
9 - Consider increasing Enemy Damage
Valheim is almost fully developed for the first 4 biomes. The plains is the end of the game. Valheim plays better if you scale up enemy damage because it keeps players inside the first couple biomes. This change makes the meadow unsafe without basic walls.
I don't recommend increasing enemy health. The goal is to keep the game challenging but doable. Enemies should be able to kill you in one hit but you shouldn't have to hit them 200 times. That is not fun.
10- Consider Disabling Portals
Disabling portals makes Valheim an even more epic game. Considering some of the most fun in Valheim is using Carts, Buildings, and Boats to transport goods, disabling portals helps fascilitate all of that. Enabling portals makes Valheim more fun to the masses but disabling it makes the game feel even more immersive and enjoyable.
11- Consider altering Material Drop Rates
I recommend increasing drop rates of regular wood, stone, and common ore because these materials become tedious to gather in the future. Players end up building less cause it can take a while to get enough wood or stone to experiment with a big project.
Try not to mess with the other items. Fine wood and Core wood serve to keep their biomes useful to you and those drop rates should be left alone. Copper and Tin ore can be plentiful but silver should be rare and black metal should be the most elusive of them all.
12 - Consider increasing pickables
Farming is important in valheim but at times it can be quite tedious. Increasing the pickables helps ensure that you have plenty of crop to go around while your foraging trips feel worthwhile.
13- Tweak Armor Values
Armor is weird in Valheim because the chest and leg plates all decrease running speed while the helmet does not. This causes players to minmax and avoid using armor because movement speed becomes so important to avoid enemies. This is a problem because gathering material to produce armor is the core loop of the game. It is very important that armor feels worthwhile.
I recommend doubling the armor values of chests and legs to make them more effective particularly in higher difficulty where being one shot is a constant threat.
14 - Increase Exploration Radius
Valheim is a big game. You can make the exploration radius much bigger and it will make your map look more friendly and will also make exploration more rewarding because you won't miss things as much. The exploration rate should match the view distance.
15 - Planting Assistance
This setting stops you from planting things to close to each other. This is a great way to make farming less click intensive.
16 - Consider Changing Stamina Rates
I like being able to perform allot of actions in a highly dangerous world. You might consider decreasing stamina drain and increasing stamina regeneration rates so you have more chances to avoid getting one shot.
17- Upgrade Cart Capacity
The cart is one of the funnest things to use and you can make it as useful as you want without hurting gameplay. I like to make the storage space bigger and decrease the extra mass variable so that the cart can hold as much stuff as I can pile into it
18 - Inventory Management Tweaks
Valheim has llot of time spent inside your inventory and these changes minimize that time so you can focus on adventure. Increase the storage space of your inventory, chest, and also all of the boats. Transporting goods in boats is some of the most fun in Valheim and you really cant go wrong with making the boats very useful. Tripling the stack size will make your inventory management almost automatic.
19- First Person Mode
Valheim Plus adds a First Person button which is F10 by default. You can also change the Field of View of the first person camera
20 - Craft From Chest
Undoubtably my favorite setting. This eliminates huge amounts of tedious inventory back and forth because it combines all of your chests with your crafting bench. This allows you to create using everything you have in a nearby chests. No more searching for that thing you lost!
21 - Automatic Repair
This feature is gold. No more forgetting to repair your stuff!
The Config File Itself
Now that you understand most of the major features, take a look at the full config text below. Use these settings as a reference point.
The settings shown below this post create a harder version of valheim that is balanced as if the plains is the end of Valheim. Monster damage is greatly increased and night time becomes significantly more threatening. Even greylings can one shot you until you get some basic armor.
Inventory management is almost eliminated through increases in stack size, inventory size, chest size, boat storage, and crafting from chest enabled. Your character has a weight limit and this is all that you need to worry about instead of also being able to have a "full" inventory from having too many items even though your characters weight is not full.
In order to balance the difficulty wood, stone, and common ore drops are tripled. Experience rates are increased drastically so that players can always recover their skills after death. Death penalty is increased from 5% to 10%. You lose your skills faster when you die but you gain them exponentially faster when you level up.
These settings center around the portal being disabled. This mode is best played in cooperative with 2-3 other players. The settings are meant to encourage cooperative gameplay, cart usage, and ship travel. Players are forced to travel more frequently with the boats and carts while increased storage space eliminates the necessity of multiple back and forth trips.
