Fimbulvetr
The Winds of the Deep North have rippled across the land. At first the northern portions of the world have been plagued by poor weather and crops, but nothing could prepare them for what awoke in the frigid lands of the Deep North. Fader's brief defeat felt like a beacon of hope to the Realm, but as summer's end reached us, so too did the cool winds of the North. At first the blizzard like conditions kept explorers at bay but now passages through the ice have been exposed allowing for those that sail north to reach these foreign lands.
With the change in season, The Realm’s Golden Age has come to a close. The Reclamation of the Dvergr was the mere start of the long winter ahead and their return has caused unforeseen eyes to look south and confront their old adversaries. The Dvergr even sent a large expeditionary force north to lead the charge towards their old enemies once the passages opened up but no word of their success has reached common ears. What at first seemed like a blessing from the Gods, the thawed out passages North exposed a direct bridge into the Realms lands, and with it came the echoes of a past.
The Grimmletrolls have awoken and traveled south to wreck havoc amongst the lands they once called home, and to seek vengeance for their younger brethren. Whilst the Krigen have taken up arms and sailed south with their Jotun warriors to bring the harsh world of the cold to the Inner Holds. Landing across the lands north of Midthold, the Krigen have established a foothold on the Realm with the intent of bringing the lands they conquered into their own. Already lands like Andorhold, parts of Fjardhold, northern Vesturhold, Nordurhold and other coastal parts have been taken. At the same time of the Deep North’s reentry to the world, the Defeat of Fader led to a reckoning from his own forces within the Ashlands. Leaderless at first, the forces of the Charred have rallied together and have struck out at the vikings of the Realm for slaying their leader earlier in the year. Concentrating on the southernmost claims, they have retaken areas once held by the Hulka Pact, surrounded Fort Hothbrodd, and have encroached on Maedhroshold and Surdurhold’s holdings in distant lands.
In regards to the lands in the North, there is no known name for these parts of the world and yet the tales of such places have been shared over the years. Attempts to colonize these parts have occurred since the First Age but little has ever been recorded of their exploits. When Fader struck and rallied the other Forsaken, the Deep North was cut off from the rest of the world and forgotten. From what has been discovered in the recent expeditions, there seems to have been several abandoned locations of the First Age frozen in time. These three locations discovered within the frozen landscape, Kolfrosti, Bergelmir, and Skrýmir, are the only named ones in records discovered and yet their skeletal ruins bring forth more questions than answers. Within these ruined settlements show signs of corruption and an ungodly structure within that seems to be the source of the curse set upon the lands.
For now the Realm holds its breath, taking it the peaceful presence of the lands before the war comes to their gates. With the presence of the Krigen and and the dreaded Grimmletrolls marching south whilst the Charred Hordes travel north from the Ashlands, the Realm may be ripped apart by both the opposing sides. Hope still remains, the Jarl of Maedhroshold managed to gain a foothold in the cold lands of the Deep North and established a fortified frontier fort called Vetrarmót, allowing those to have safe shelter, and to seek the answers to end this invasion. Time will time if these attempts will be successful or if the this world will fall into ruins once again.
