Niðavellir Reclamation
The winds from the north have stirred the efforts of the dvergr remnants that have been trapped here within the Realm since the end of the First Age. When the Foraken arrived and ravished the lands of the Dvergr, they were hit with such power that their cities, outposts, and any sign of their civilization was splintered, unable to organize any counter for a time. The dreaded mists unleashed by the Queen targeted at the heart of their lands and corrupted the very terrain leaving the ruins that are visible today. Much of their holds were severed from any contact for decades, forcing many of the pockets to govern independently. One such group organized an attack on the Ashlands to cut the head of the source, Fader. They sailed south with a massive force but failed at their objective. Their numbers were scattered and now still fighting the Charred to this day.
These pockets of remnants of Dvergr seen across the Realm are the survivors and they continue to survive as nomadic groups. Mostly settling in the Plains and Mistlands, they do have several outposts housing some of their numbers across other biomes. Most of these outposts are abandoned in general. At some point during the Second Age they attempted to reach out to Niðavellir to gather more reinforcements but accidentally opened a gateway allowing the vikings to arrive here in the Realm once again. Since then they have cooperated with the new arrivals but behind the scenes continued their attempts to contact Niðavellir.
Mid-Summer, they have achieved their goal. The cold winds of the Deep North have awoken the dvergr’s desire to see home again, and with that drive they constructed the Myrkheimr Gateway. The dvergr now has a steady passage to the Realm of Niðavellir, and with it comes new numbers and power unlike the Realm has seen since the First Age. Their first act was to rebuild and reinforce their last known city of Dvergfestning in the region of Dvergurstjorna. From here they are set to expand their influence in the Realm, and try to bring the splintered nomadic groups back into the fold. For now their numbers in areas that they control have increased, and their presence will now be a prominent feature in the land.
What their intentions are, unknown. It has yet to be seen if they wish to cooperate with the Realm, simply bypass us, or seek vengeance for the actions of the First Kingdom from the prior Age.
