The Nyrðrarök Schism
The Nyrðrarök Schism or more commonly known as the Great Schism. Was a internal conflict with the Realm of Rhovanion. Taking place in the northernmost Holds, the Realm experienced its first internal civil conflict.
The holds of Nordurhold, Vestruhold and Noraustia were all claimed by 3 individuals, each with their own vision of how to rebuild the once ruined Realm. These visions, though shared in scope and grandeur, clashed with the bordering lands. Cooperation between the 3 started off civil, but it eventually soured, festering resentment and cruelty. The roots of this division began with verbal disagreements of how to run their own lands, and curiosity of each other’s own exploits and claims brewed within the courts.
The expansionist ways of Nordurhold overreached on their own borders, causing mistrust between Jarls. Petty quarrelers of actions, and land claims echoed across the lands. The Jarls of Vesturhold and Noraustia formed an alliance to pressure Nordurhold. Rather than meet in a neutral location and diffuse this conflict, they made the choice to forgo formality and wreak havoc on the peace. Brazen acts and false accusations spewed to anyone within their reach, dragging all those within the Realm into their quarrel. High Jarl of Midthold, pressured to act, placed judgement onto each Jarl and their allies, banishing them from the Realm.
Following the judgement from Thornongil, the Realm was on edge to see what would follow the aftermath of the expulsion of the Jarls. As dawn rose on the 2nd day following the incident, those that were exiled returned to seek petty vengeance on those that placed judgement upon them. From Bragi Keep, the Jarl of Ostlighold witnessed the Sacking of Thorongil. Upon the hill, the Jarl of Vesturhold and Jarl of Noraustia laid waste to the grand halls of the capital. Once a neutral haven for players, it was considered the safe zone for most to walk freely without prying eyes. The Jarls then fled from their sacking with little to no explanation of their own actions, leaving only the smoldering ruins of the city.
The other Jarls branched out across the lands in search of the culprits, only to find Tyr’s Landing in shambles. The Jarl of Vesturhold razed their own city, leaving little to no logical reason to do so. On the 3rd day, the Thorongil, along with any other destroyed claim/hold was rebuilt to their former glory. Jarl of Nordruhold eventually accepted the fate laid upon them and left the Realm. Mimir is now abandoned, an empty shell of its once prosperous city. Fear of their return still lingers, as their influence did sway the minds of other players within the Realm.
Odin deems it worthy to pillage the remaining holdouts of the exiled Jarls, for they each had countless outposts and claims in the Outer Regions. The Jarl’s of Surdurhold, Ostlighold, and Midthold have organized raiding parties to Hold’s of the exiled ones, where they will share and spread the wealth pillaged from their once civil neighbors.
