You teased us with some parts of this in Val-Con but the whole city is more than just the sum of the parts. Absolutely amazing. How do you even move in such a scenery? The most instance-heavy parts on my city are under 58k and I already struggle to keep even 20FPS in vanilla. I've not a top tier current computer but isn't humble either.

Thank you!!!

So imma be honest dude, I have no idea how I got this performing so well all things considered lol, but I have a few ideas.
  • My specs: 14th Gen i7(K), 64GB of DDR5 RAM, RTX 4070ti (1440p)
  • I was lucky enough to upgrade my RAM before that whole market went nuts, so I know the game is utilizing every bit of it (i think it's capped to 28GB tho, so my setup is a bit overkill)
  • CPU is overclocked to roughly 4.5Ghz
  • The surrounding areas have been heavily optimized and done in a way where it looks more lush with very few instances (eg. no rocks in the water, no bushes/rocks in the surrounding forests, no location proxies -besides 2 caves within 1000m, for every 5 trees deleted 1 scaled up tree replaced them, etc) - this reduces hitching a bit due to load-in
  • Render limits mod is configured to load-in more zones (5 loaded, 6 generated) - this is more hardware intensive, but the reduced load-in makes FPS more stable
  • I'm unsure if this helps but 99% of objects placed within 500m of the city center were placed by me and set as invulnerable with physics disabled
  • I have Smooth motion (frame doubling) turned on for Valheim in the NVIDA app - this has been super helpful and a key factor. If you have an Nvida card, open the app and goto:
(Graphics > Valheim > Driver Settings > Smooth Motion - ON)

Hope some of this helps :)

Oooh, it must be the surroundings preparation (mostly) for what you mention. I play full regular vanilla with any tweaks except that I used plant everything to remove random pickable rocks, branches and dandelions on the floor inside the city limits. I keep as most as possible any other element because I can't replace it later and I don't have so many options so i preserve as much as I can. City is around the starting point, so lush meadows and black forest around.

Also, your computer is way better too. Mine isn't a bad one but I just realized the CPU is reaching 7 years old. It's a trusty 3700x that keeps working very well but didn't considered how much time passed already 😅 The GPU is newer although still weaker (6700XT); but I'm sure it's more a thing of the CPU than anything else in this game.

I'm curious about that you mention of increase the view distance. I'm constantly suffering those "freezes" the game has when unloading distant places when moving around. Specially considering I spread a lot the city precisely to try to lower the instance count density. I always thought that increase more the viewing distance would worse the problem but for what you said it seems it can be the opposite.

How on earth did you do that floating glowing orb?? That on its own doesn’t get enough recognition
do you have a saveable file of just the floating orb?

That would be a sphere made of 1x1 crystal walls, can be done with just gizmo but i made a glass circle, then used infinity hammer to copy>rotate>paste each section around each other to form a sphere. I will likely provide Blueprints for some of these structures in a few weeks
